Appliance Parts and Equipment

We have so many appliances in our homes – refrigerators, washers, dryers, stoves, ovens, dishwashers and microwaves, to name a few! At times, these do not function properly but through just a bit of intelligent poking and prodding as well as reading the owner’s manual that comes with the appliance, we often find that it’s easy to replace part then insert it into the appliance. This, in turn, will save us a good bit of money as opposed to calling in an appliance specialist to diagnose the same thing we found; simply that it needs a new part.

Dishwasher repair, for example, may simply mean that the belt that initiates the drainage cycle may have become damaged or is broken. Also, the drain hose may need to be replaced, the pump assembly may have gone bad or the heating element may no longer be working. Dishwashers also have a plethora of switches, many of which can be easily replaced when they fail.

You may need a new seal on the machine, and those are quite easy to find and install too.

Refrigerator parts are sometime quite easy to replace, such as the seal (gasket) that goes around the door, or you may need to purchase a complete icemaker kit. At times, you may need to purchase a condenser fan motor. Another easy to replace refrigerator part is a door closer cam.

Electric stove parts may consist of such things as surface burner elements, range burner caps, oven bake elements, or oven broil elements. Range infinite switches are commonly needed as well as knob adapters and knobs.

Washing machines may need agitator parts, or belts. You may also need to replace the washer control board, the water valve or perhaps the hose. Sometimes you may need to find a replacement part for the drain pump, a washer spring, or a washer timer or a washer motor.

Dryers are sometimes in need of parts such as the dryer electronic control, heating elements, belts, blower wheel, buzzer and of course the dryer lint screen that is so often damaged by kids putting their steel toys in the dryer.

Other dryer parts that you may need include knobs and thermostats.

Always remember with any appliance, that the serial/model number of the appliance is important and any information that is found by the door or behind the appliance on a foil plate is also important. Be sure to read the owner’s manual which will have a handy list of diagnostic tools available, and the company itself may have a toll free number for you to call when you need help in diagnosing your particular problem. This customer support makes it wonderfully easy to ascertain which part you need to again have a “happy” and functional appliance. When shopping for parts, you will need to have the appliance type (dryer, washer, range, etc.), the brand name (Maytag, Hot Point, etc.), the model number (from that foil plate) as well as the serial or manufacturer’s number (same foil plate), and the symptoms to be sure you are ordering the correct part.

Creating More Storage Space in Your Garage

Your garage is as difficult part of the house to keep tidy. Invariably it ends up being the locale of all the junk, unused and unneeded stuff that everyone generally accumulates throughout their life. So while a garage might seem like a big space when you buy it, add a car and all this stuff and there won’t be much space left! The best way to get more storage room out of your garage is to install storage shelves.

The simplest kind of shelves are those that are freestanding. They obviously go all the way to the floor so that you have more storage space from them but they also take up a little bit more room. On the other hand you could get shelves that hang on the wall. These take up less room but generally provide less storage space – and you need to be more careful about the weight you put on them to make sure they don’t collapse. Garages can be dangerous enough without having a shelf full of junk fall down on your head!

If shelves aren’t enough then you should probably go through all the things you have in your garage and sort them into different categories then box them all up (with labels of course).

These can go on the floor and shelves and provide the most efficient way of organizing your garage for the most storage space. With just a little bit of effort you’ll find you can fit much more in the garage as well as have everything on hand if you need it.

Organising your garage ? tips on garage storage solutions

Do you ever walk into your garage and it takes a minute to decide if you have been burgled or if you just left it this messy? I used to have hand tools spread from one side of my garage to the other. If you have the same problem here is what you can do. Keep building bigger garages or start thinking about proper garage storage solutions.  At the end of the day, if your garage isnt a joy to work in, you wont want to spend time in it.

My dad has one wall of his garage covered in plywood and he hangs his tools from nails in the wood. He draws around each of his tools on its hook. That way you always know what goes where and if someone has pinched one of your favourite hand tools at least you know about it! Some people say to me that a one year rule is the easiest way to keep a tidy garage.

If something hasnt been used for a whole year then you probably dont need it at all. I dont agree though, I think proper garage storage solutions mean you can hoard all the tools you want and still have a tidy garage!

Stage one is to get a good toolbox, that is one of the easiest things you can do. After that then its cabinets. Either wall mounted or on the floor, the main thing you should be looking out for us a sturdy cabinet. Often you will find there are hook boards to hang your tools on, just like my dad with his plywood board on the wall but this way the tools are also secure.

Storage bins are always a great choice in the well organised garage. They come in many different sizes so think about what you need to store in them.

The standard material for garage storage bins is plastic, which is great for anything from hand tools, to cleaning materials and rags. You can get metal storage bins too though, which you might want to think about if you are using them for heavy tools.

Your garage will be a joy to work in once you have it neat and tidy. I discovered tools in my garage that I never even knew I owned, what treasures have you got under a pile of oily rags in the corner? I have been making do with the wrong tools for years, while actually the right tool was somewhere in my garage lost. Its also nice to be able to work in my garage without falling over mess and even valuable tools that are lying on the floor.

My final piece of advice is to move anything that doesnt belong in your garage out.  Do you have a washing machine or a tumble drier in there? Perhaps there is even a freezer? Your new garage storage solutions will fit nicely in the space they leave behind when you move them back to the kitchen. Living in the UK the weather doesnt let me work outside all year, if you are in the same position you need to make sure that your garage has room for you to work around a vehicle.

Sarah Haines isn’t perhaps the first person that would come to mind when you think about garage storage solutions but years of coaxing one more trip out of a VW camper gave her a messy garage and a lot of tools to look after!

Where to Find Good Garage Tool Storage

When it comes to organizing your garage, it is not all that different from organizing any other room in your home. The garage has its own unique challenges, like garage tool storage, but the overall principal is the same. You have to work within the space, time and budget that you have. And you need to know where to find good solutions for the challenges that you encounter.

So what do you need to do? The first thing you need to look at is your space. Where do you want your tools in your garage? Where do they make the most sense? Which ones do you use all of the time and where should they go so that they are easily accessible? What does the space where you will put your tools look like? Is there space for a cabinet or large tool chest? Do you need to hang them on pegboards on the wall because there is no space for a cabinet? Take measurements of your space so you know what will fit in it.

Before you go looking for that perfect garage tool storage solution, you also need to know what your budget is.

If you have a large garage and plenty of money to spend, you might want to look at professionally installed garage systems. Most systems are very customizable and have solutions for just about any need you have in your garage.

If you have a moderate budget and a standard sized garage, there are good solutions you can buy at home improvement stores and some home organization stores. They have systems that you can buy or you can piece together the different items that you need.

If your budget is pretty tight, garage sales, thrift stores and low cost department stores are your best bet. You will likely have to do a bit of looking to find what you need at these places and you might need to look at things and think about how you can use them rather than searching for your ideal solution.

Another important thing to remember about garage tool storage is that you need to be sure that you are actually using the tools that you are storing. Be sure to take some time to go through everything you have and get rid of those things that are broken or that you no longer use. Steel Shelving for Garage Storage Shelves

A serious problem that houses often suffer from is a lack of storage options. Sometimes there just isn’t the space available to store all the items that are likely to be found in a house. There is a cost effective solution however, and that is steel shelving. Admittedly you are not likely to want steel shelving in your sitting room, but in the parts of the house where attractiveness is not the main concern, steel shelving is ideal. This article provides all the information you could need before purchasing steel shelving.

First and foremost the garage can benefit from good steel shelving. The garage always seems to become a dumping ground for broken bits of furniture, sports equipment, cleaning materials and children’s’ toys. The end result is a space in chaos with little room for the car and an ongoing headache for all occupants of the house. Installing some steel shelving can turn the garage into a clean, well ordered and tidy space.

Imagine being able to locate something you need in less than 30 seconds? Sounds good. Steel shelving can make that dream a reality. It is a cost effective and efficient method of storage and the shelves can be assembled and in place in just a few hours.

Once the shelves are installed and you have had a small clear-out it is time to put the shelves into use. Store heavy items on the bottom and light items on the top. Put anything that you don’t use everyday onto the harder to reach shelves leaving the head height and arm height shelves for more commonly used items. Store things that get used together in the same place, so car equipment and tools should be stored together, sports equipment should go together and so on. If you have a lot of very small bits and pieces that may get lost if placed on the shelves, these should be placed into plastic bins or some other storage device first.

Screws could go in one tub, batteries into another…you get the idea.

Carrying out these tasks can be a very satisfying way to spend your weekend and at the end of it you have a clean and tidy space where everything has a home. Similarly the garden shed can benefit from steel shelving. With tools, seeds, bulbs, seed trays and plenty of pots and other gardening equipment, the shed too can become overrun. Steel shelves ensure this doesn’t happen and once the space is organised it is quite difficult to mess up too. Although some of the rooms inside the house are not a good location for steel shelving, a walk-in larder is an ideal candidate for these shelves. What better way is there to store spillable and breakable items than on easy to clean, roomy and spacious shelves? They can be wiped clean and with a good labeling system anything can be reached instantly. The top shelves can be used to hold heavy pan or kitchen items that are only used very occasionally.

Another place in the house that can benefit from steel shelving is the attic. Up here plenty of items for storage can be found and shelves offer the perfect tool to keep them on. If your home has an office then here too metal shelving can be a great help. Whether it’s books, computers, pot plants or files, steel shelving provides a low cost option to housing everything safely and securely.

If you are in need of garage storage shelves or a work bench, you should search online where the greatest selection of steel shelving as well as other types can be found. Steel shelving is cost effective and provides a flexible storage option in the home. Buy online for the best prices and delivery right to your door.

Kathryn Dawson writes articles for Shelf Save, an online store for high quality garage storage shelves at low prices. Organising your home is as simple as ordering shelves and storage options online, and have them delivered to your home the next day. Great Garage Storage and the Power Shelf

With Spring fast approaching, thoughts of cleaning out spaces may enter the heads of families preparing to get through the many home improvement projects on their To-Do list. But before you can get to work organizing the home, you’ll have to have the ability to find the tools you need for any given job. Where is that wrench, anyway? A Power Shelf outlet is one great way to get started in organizing the garage.

Great garage organization is not a pipe dream. There are many garage organizers on the market that will help the budding handyman keep track of every tool he owns. If creating garage organization is something you would like to do, then set aside a day to devote to it and follow the tips that will help you the most. You’ll be happy with the results you will get when spending just a small amount of time and energy in garage organization solutions such as a Power Shelf.

The first step in getting the garage storage solutions you need is to go through what you have.

Doing this will help you determine what you really need, what you use the most, and what you rarely use but still need. Garage storage is like premium real estate; when you have it, you don’t want to let it go. But unlike premium real estate, creating garage storage that works for you is actually pretty easy to come by. A Power Shelf, for instance is very affordable and super easy to install.

With the help of a great new product called The Power Shelf, places in the garage like the work bench can take on a whole new feel. In this place where the drill may be left laying out in order to facilitate easy plug in for use, the result can often be clutter and a messy appearance. Using The Power Shelf in place of the regular wall outlet creates a space where any power tools can have their own place where they are hung neatly near the power source.

The Power Shelf is used in place of your regular outlet, so you don’t have to create a new power source; you just use what’s already there. The Power Shelf drill pack outlet has all the necessary components for great garage storage of your drills and other power tools.

In a properly organized garage, everything will be in its own place; drill on the Power Shelf, hammer on the workbench. Getting started with great garage organization can be as simple as keeping all gardening tools such as rakes, hoses, and lawn fertilizer in one part of the garage, and all power tools in another. Making a designated place for separate sets of tools will save you time in the long run. Don’t you just hate rummaging through the tool box for that one pair of pliers? Items can be placed in boxes, on storage shelves, or inside of any garage organizer you purchase at the local home improvement store.

Another characteristic of a truly organized garage is that there is not an overabundance of rakes and shovels, hammers and hoes lying around. When going through all of the handy tools you have accumulated over the years, if you find you have multiples of anything, set it aside. These items can be put up for sale at a garage sale, or can be given to someone you know who is just getting started with their own tool collection. The point is, if you’ve got plenty, make do with that and your garage will be a much more organized space. An organized garage is one that saves a busy homeowner both time and money in the long run. Thank you, Power Shelf!

Making Cabinet Garage Storage Shelves Work

While cabinets are a great idea for garage storage shelves, they do have some drawbacks. So what can you do to make them work in your garage? What are the best solutions available?

Cabinets are great in a garage. They make the garage look cleaner and neater since you can hide all of your things inside them. They can help you organize your things more easily and you are able to separate items that should not be stored together.

But what are the drawbacks and how can you overcome them? One issue is that they take up more space than open shelving. If space is not a significant issue in your garage, this should not be a problem but if you have a smaller garage, you do need to consider how much space the cabinets will take up. Be sure to measure before you buy cabinet garage storage shelves.

You also have to take into consideration that you are going to have to open those cabinet doors.

Measure how big the cabinet doors are and be sure that you will be able to open them in the space that you are planning to put them in your garage. You might even try making a mock cabinet out of cardboard so that you can clearly tell if the cabinets you are looking at will fit in your space.

Once you have your cabinets, be sure that you organize like things together. Putting all of the lawn chemicals in one cabinet instead of in several can save you time when you are looking for your lawn fertilizer. You may also want to label the outside of the cabinets so that you know what is in them. This can be especially helpful if you do not use certain items very often. This way you just have to look at the outside of the cabinets instead of digging through them.

Be sure to also keep in mind your needs when you buy cabinet garage storage shelves.

If you do not need a whole wall of cabinets, do not buy them. Just buy the number you need. Get more helpful tips for your garage at http://www.yourhomeisorganized.com/GarageOrganization.htm

The Amazing Capabilities of Garage Storage Systems

If you need to organize all the stuff in your overstuffed garage you should think about installing various components that make up countless garage storage systems. It’s easy to toss your junk in your garage and make plans to clean it up later but that later never comes and soon your garage is a junk room. Having a way to organize that junk will not only open your garage so that it can be used for its intended purpose but it will help you easily find that junk when you need it again.

Garage storage systems are a combination of cabinets and compartments and shelves that attach to the walls of your garage or ones that stand alone and are easily rearranged. The compartments and styles of shelving are also interchangeable and adjustable regardless of the system used. Two basic systems are used in garage storage: garage wall storage systems and the garage overhead storage system.

The wall system optimizes the room to its fullest.

It can be set up to line against every wall in your garage and is fully customizable. This allows you to easily store like items together. Things that are seasonal are especially conveniently made easy to store in a garage system like this. Camping gear, Christmas ornaments, pool toys, whatever it may be. Then of course you can sort your tools and gardening equipment. The units either securely fasten to the wall of your garage or will have legs or lockable wheels that they stand on.

Overhead garage storage systems attach to the ceiling of the garage and are usually constructed of metal frame racking. It can easily store things that are too long for cabinets such as ladders, bicycles or canoes. They usually attach to the garage at the rafters.

You can even use these in conjunction with the wall units for maximum storage capacity.

Home Security – Lighting

It wasn’t that long ago when home security lighting meant buying old-fashioned manually operated timers and plugging them into a number of different lamps. Not that those aren’t available….and still somewhat effective, but security lighting has “come a long way baby.” Technology has dramatically advanced the options now available to homeowners. A large percentage of unwanted deviant behavior takes place in the dark. Vandals, thieves and intruders are much less likely to attempt to challenge a well lit home. Let’s explore a few, readily available, lighting options.

Motion sensors -
Motion sensors are exactly what the name suggests. Lighting remains off until some form of motion signals the lighting to come on. They provide security, convenience and energy savings. Since they only come on when signaled, not only are they energy efficient, but they will minimize unwanted nighttime lighting pollution.

Numerous types are available, including: floodlights, lantern posts, wall mounted, wireless and even solar-powered models. Motion sensors are inexpensive, available at most hardware stores or internet retailers and are a reasonably simple do-it-yourself project.

Keychain remote control -
It’s no longer necessary to feel uncomfortable about coming home to a dark house. Wireless remotes now make it possible for you to turn on your lights before ever getting out of your car. Imagine turning on your porch, garage or other predetermined interior lights at the touch of a single button. If per chance an intruder was in your home, upon your arrival, this would surely send them running. These remote control lighting kits are readily available from specialty online retailers.

Operate your interior/exterior lighting from any room in your home -
Sometimes things do “go bump in the night.” And sometimes they’re a little too close for comfort.

Rather than venture into a dark house or yard to explore, wouldn’t it be nice to turn on all of the appropriate lighting from within the safety of your bedroom (or any other room in your home)? Within the last several years it’s become possible to do just that. Some systems are quite simple in that they operate with transmitters-receivers, while others utilize your home’s wiring and are a bit more difficult to integrate.

Home automation -
While all of the items listed are beneficial security measures, the Mercedes Benz of home security lighting is most certainly the whole house automation system. Remotely controlling your lighting is just the tip of the iceberg. Imagine having an integrated system that will allow you to control security cameras, alarm systems, interior temperature, audio/video, telephones, intercoms, appliances, sprinkler systems and even your pool/spa equipment. What was once considered to be a futuristic dream has rapidly evolved as the ‘here and now.” This has been accomplished through the advancement of computers and home electronics, combined with broadband and digital technology. Although prices have improved with time, this type of technology can potentially be quite expensive. A wealth of information about home automation is available through specialized Websites which can be found by utilizing popular search engines.

Bob Garret writes numerous articles for Web sites on home security, personal security, and home automation. For more of his useful articles on security, please visit Home Security, supplier of home security products and systems.
